THE NAKUI CHURCH

In January 2001 the first group of Nakuis began gathering under a "haus win" (shade structure of tree branches and palm leaves) to hear a collection of contextualized Bible lessons: "God's Talk" written and explained especially for them. Five days-a-week for four months they came to hear more of these stories about their Creator's power, holiness, goodness and love as well as man's sin, defiance of God and need for a Savior. On Easter Sunday a small, diverse group of 15-20 accepted Christ as their "Promise Man" sent by God to "throw away their bad action's debt". Today the first generation Nakui church is functioning and growing under the leadership of their three pastors: Kibo, Suse, and Sobai. In a society that traditionally abuses women, molests children, neglects elders and wars with neighboring tribes, the Nakui church represents hope and change. God is doing miracles among this people, and transformational change is happening in and through the lives of the Nakui people.
